Frida’s Legacy Lives On: Cultura, Creation & Celebración
July marks the birthday month of Frida Kahlo, an icon of resilience, creativity, and cultural pride. Many of us are inspired not only by her art, but by what she stood for: unapologetic identity, deep connection to roots, and the beauty in imperfection. Her legacy continues to live on through generations of artists, mujeres, and brands like mine who find meaning in every embroidered thread, every brushstroke, and every story
rooted in cultura.
Frida’s presence in fashion and design goes far beyond flower crowns and graphic tees. Her style was a bold form of resistance layered in symbolism, tradition, and strength. Today, we see her influence echoed in many forms such as vibrant Mexican textiles, artisan handbags, Frida Kahlo jewelry, and handmade accessories that speak to both traditional and modern expression. I'm honored to share a small collection of Frida Kahlo-inspired accessories, including beautiful handbags, coin purses, and handmade notebooks made from recycled paper, a tribute to both sustainability and storytelling.
These pieces are more than just products. They’re tiny revolutions created by Mexican artisans, rooted in Mexican tradition, and made with the same intention Frida poured into her work: to tell the truth, to celebrate identity, and to never look away from the beauty in pain.
I'm also thrilled to be joining two powerful Frida Kahlo birthday celebrations this July:

Viva La Frida Fest – Saturday, July 13th | 12 PM – 5 PM
📍 Casita del Pueblo, Uptown Whittier
This annual event is hosted by Casita del Pueblo, a 30+ year old boutique deeply committed to bringing Mexican art, culture, and education to its surrounding community. This festival will feature local artists, performances, food, and vendors honoring the life and influence of Frida. Come by the Piel Fina booth to shop our Frida Kahlo-themed accessories and many other artisan items.
3rd Annual Frida Fest with Gente Market – Friday, July 26th | 11 AM – 4 PM
📍 Heritage Museum of Orange County
This beautiful outdoor market will showcase over 75+ vendors, a Frida Kahlo look-alike contest, food, music, and endless creative energy. I'm honored to be part of this event that celebrates Frida’s essence in such a powerful, collective way.
